The tools and technology used in hygiene treatments are just as important as the skills & experience of the Twyford Dental hygienist. To remove plaque deposits with the utmost efficiency and success, the following tools are used:
Ultrasonic Scaler – An ultrasonic scaler uses high vibrational (ultrasonic) energy to remove plaque deposits from the surface of teeth. The tip of the scaler vibrates at a speed of 20,000 to 45,000 times (20 to 45 kHz) in one second, and will feel ticklish against the teeth. This vibrating tip is very gently passed over the surface of teeth to remove plaque or tartar deposits, while a cooling jet of water provides irrigation and helps with the cleansing action. The ultrasonic scaler is continuously moved over the surface of teeth, and the ones with thinner, longer tips can be used to remove plaque in gum pockets. This tool is mostly used for loosening large pieces of plaque deposits.
Hand Scaler – Once the larger pieces of plaque are loosened with the ultrasonic scaler, hand tools such as a hand scaler and a curette can be used for the remaining smaller piece of plaque. Your Twyford Dental hygienist will be able to gently and precisely work in cleaning your teeth using the hand scaler, which can go to the hardest to reach nooks and crannies between teeth.
Airflow Prophy Jet – This machine is used in a scale & polish treatment by spraying a mixture of water, air, and fine powder on the surface of teeth, and on the spaces between teeth. The sodium bicarbonate used is known to be gentle to teeth and the surrounding gum tissue, while offering effective cleaning action. This method is gentler and more comfortable, compared to the manual method of polishing teeth.
Polishing Devices – Polishing is the last step during a scale & polish treatment. Manual teeth polishing is done using a rubber cup together with a gritty paste to make teeth sparkle and shine healthily. Other dental polishing devices and tools are available for different types of materials used in restorations (such as ceramic or composite teeth restorations). Corresponding polish paste will be used for the specific teeth restoration material as needed.
Prevention of Dental Problems – Your dental hygienist in London can detect the earliest signs of dental problems, giving you a chance get treatment to avoid complications. Regular hygiene appointments can help prevent tooth decay, which can lead to tooth loss if left untreated.
Gum Disease Prevention – If left to progress, gum disease can lead to tooth loss. Your dental hygienist is professionally trained to check your gums for any signs of gum disease so that you can get gum treatment, to avoid complicated periodontal disease problems.
Brighter Smiles – Teeth stains are professionally removed during a hygiene treatment, leaving your teeth looking much whiter. Teeth polishing will also leave your teeth looking and feeling much smoother after the procedure.
Fresh Breath – Your Twyford Dental hygienist will help you maintain fresh breath, and can give you tips on how to avoid having to suffer from embarrassing bad breath problems.
A Boost of Confidence – You will undoubtedly feel more confident when your smile is whiter and brighter – and if you know that your breath smells as healthy as it can possibly be.
